(bigleaguepolitics)Cartel gunmen were suspected to have killed 6 police officers in an ambush in northwest Mexico on October 1, 2020.
Authorities are now on hot on their tracks according to a report by Fox, who are in pursuit of the gunmen who attacked a convoy transporting security forces.
José Rosas Aispuro, the governor of the state of Durango, said on October 3 that prosecutors are in the process of investigating the attack, which occurred in the town El Mezquital. Seven other police officers also received injuries.
According to state prosecutor, Ruth Medina, several of the vehicles that the assailants left behind had bloodstains all over them, which potentially hinted at the gunmen suffering several casualties. The notorious Sinaloa drug cartel has a strong presence in the region that the attack took place.
Violence in Mexico is getting out of control. In 2019, Mexico suffered over 35,000 homicides.
Mexico is a failed state that is becoming increasingly dominated by drug cartels. In fact, during the current Wuhan virus pandemic cartels have flexed their muscles by providing aid and enforcing curfews. As history shows time and time again, nature abhors a vacuum. When public institutions fail to provide order, other coercive institutions will fill in the void.
Mexico is exhibit A of this. Such a dynamic has only become more prevalent under the watch of Mexico’s current President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), who has advocated for a “hugs not bullets” approach to tackling crime. It seems that the American left’s soft on crime policies are becoming an export commodity for other countries to consume, much to their detriment.
BLP previously reported on one incident where Mexican security forces were outgunned by members of the Sinaloa cartel after the security agents attempted to detain the son of infamous drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera. Undoubtedly, Mexico is going through institutional decay.
Because of that, the U.S. must take shoring up its border defense seriously, It cannot risk having drug cartels and other criminal actors make their way across the border and start slowly hacking away at American cities.
This is one preventable evil that could be avoided by simply securing the border and keeping Mexico’s dysfunction within its respective borders.
