(bigleaguepolitics)Brian Kemp, the embattled Republican governor of Georgia who frequently drew the wrath of President Trump throughout his post-Election Day fight for the presidency, called the George Floyd riots “peaceful protests” and says he was “proud” to support them.

In the tragic deaths of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, the entire nation witnessed injustice with our own eyes. I was proud to support the peaceful protests that drew the world’s attention to these terrible acts,” Kemp tweeted Thursday.

This astonishing tweet sounds like something straight from Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, or Stacey Abrams. As Classical Theist points out, Kemp is probably laughing at pro-Trump conservatives by now.

Governor Kemp had faced intense scrutiny and criticism over Georgia’s handling of the presidential election and allegations of voter fraud. Big League Politics extensively covered these controversies and the disaster that was the January Senate runoff. Donald Trump lost the state of Georgia to Joe Biden, while incumbent Republican senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue lost to Democrat challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff respectively.

Kemp is up for reelection in 2022. It would not come as a surprise to see him lose. The political winds have been shifting in the Peach State and Republican voters, who by and large continue to stand with the president, may be reluctant to keep their governor in office.
